About the project
Anteater Poker is the second team project from EECS 22L, built by the same six people. It is an online Texas Hold’em variant with UCI Anteater-themed roles and powers. Still C, still a GTK 3 GUI, with room codes, chat, emotes, a turn timer and a scoreboard.
The bot runs on the server. It can fill in as a player, and it can take over when a player disconnects; once they reconnect, they pick up where they left off.
It is still algorithmic decision making, but this project has no competitive element, so the algorithm is kept fairly simple. It is nowhere near as deep or thorough as Anteater Chess.
My part
- 01
Decision policy
Preflop it looks at pairs, high cards and suited connectors; after the flop it counts pairs and trips, sorting the hand into weak, medium or strong. It then checks, calls, raises or folds based on how the cost to call compares with its stack and the pot.
- 02
Protocol and abilities
Decisions are turned into the server's JSON commands, so every bot action goes through the same input and output path as a human player.
